Two-fixed wing bombers and 30 fire officers were called to a grass fire that broke out on a property along the North Minore Road yesterday afternoon.

Police were forced to close both Minore and North Minore Road because of the threat the fire posed.

Six RFS tankers and one from Fire and Rescue worked on the ground to stop the fire from approaching the roads and a residence. The fixed-wing aircraft worked to ensure the fire didn't spread into bushland behind the property.

No one was in the house at the time.

The fire burned out 15 hectares before crews were able to contain it.

It was too early to determine the cause of the fire but an investigation had been launched.

RFS Orana team leader Lyndon Wieland had already warned of the exaggerated fire danger during the heatwave that is currently plaguing Dubbo.

With temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius yesterday afternoon and wind gusts of 24 kilometres per hour, there was a risk of the fire getting out of control.

While a total fire ban is not in place, the RFS is asking everyone to exercise extreme caution and obtain a permit before lighting any fires. Campfires in particular pose a serious threat and need to be completely extinguished before leaving.

Other dangers include slashers, angle grinders and welders, while even driving a vehicle through long, dry grass can spark a fire.

Temperatures will continue to climb to a peak of 40 degrees on Saturday and again next Tuesday before a chance of possible showers next Wednesday
