Bush Fire Risk Mitigation and Resilience Support Program
The RFS administers funds for works and projects that increase the resilience of NSW communities to bush fires.
Funding is allocated in accordance with BFCC Policy 1/2011 – Allocation Principles for Funding of Bush Fire Mitigation Works.
There are a number of different streams from which funding can be allocated. This includes both the RFS programs as well as State and Commonwealth initiatives.
The following programsare directly administered by the RFS:
- Bush Fire Risk Mitigation and Resilience Support Program
- Brigade Mitigation Support Program
- Strategic Fire Trails Funding Program
Bush Fire Risk Mitigation and Resilience Support Program
This funding program assists public land managers / owners to undertake bush fire mitigation works, to provide access for fire fighting, and deliver projects that increase the resilience of NSW communities to bush fire. The funding is available to supplement resources of public land managers / owners and enable additional works to be implemented.
Local Councils, State Government Agencies and Forestry Corporation of NSW are all eligible to apply for grants under this program. Applications must be made via Guardian.
Brigade Mitigation Support Program
This funding program supports RFS volunteer rural fire brigades in carrying out hazard reduction activities across the State. Applications for funding through this program are prepared by the RFS District Office, and are submitted by a RFS Manager (or above) via Guardian.

Applications for funding for the 2024/25 Bush Fire Risk Mitigation and Resilience Support Program and Brigade Mitigation Support Program closed on 9 June 2024.
