The RFS Organisational Structure comprises of the following divisions:

These roles are located across the state and are a great opportunity to work closely with the community and volunteer members. Training and induction for these roles occurs at the RFS State Training Academy facility in Dubbo.

The RFS State Headquarters is based at Sydney Olympic Park and hosts many of our corporate and strategic operational and business functions. In addition, there are seven Area Command offices located across the state who provide support across three functional areas:

  2. Community Risk
  3. Capability

The RFS State Warehouse is based at Glendenning, and primarily supports warehouse, logistics and transport functions for the agency.

An excellent pathway to a career with the RFS is to join the service through volunteering at your local Rural Fire Brigade. Many of our volunteer members are given the opportunity to undertake the necessary training and qualifications to allow them to obtain paid employment with the RFS, and many staff members continue to retain their volunteer membership and support their local brigade.

We have locations right across NSW incorporating both Administrative, Operational and Leadership roles. In each of our individual roles, we support the goals of the RFS, we come together to ensure the safety of each other and the communities we serve.


The Welcome Experience

The RFS has partnered with the NSW Government to offer a range of support services to new and existing RFS staff who are relocating to regional NSW.

The Welcome Experience is a free service from the NSW Government to help essential workers and their families move to regional NSW with ease. From finding housing and childcare, to helping your partner find employment and connecting with the local community, The Welcome Experience offers personalised, concierge-like support tailored to your needs.

The Welcome Experience helps with:

  • Relocation – preparing for the move, including an overview of what to expect and guidance on finding a removalist
  • Cultural connections – providing information and introductions to cultural communities
  • Housing – connecting you with trusted real estate agencies to help find a home in a safe neighbourhood
  • Education - providing information on early childhood education, schooling and university options in the area
  • Social Connections – connecting to sports clubs, social groups and community organisations to meet like-minded individuals
  • Employment – supporting essential workers and partners to find relevant, meaningful employment
  • Accessibility and healthcare – providing information on disability support, healthcare and other services providers
  • Leisure and recreation – providing local knowledge on the best activities and events happening around town
