RAFT Crew Training
Published Date: 19 Sep 2019
Summary
Our wonderful RAFT crew spent the weekend doing some training for the up and coming fire season.
On Friday and Saturday the team undertook a training exercise in preparation for the upcoming season. Both existing, new and possible recruits had a chance to hone their skills in night navigation, incident management, technology, helipad establishment, and good old remote area firefighting.
It was a great opportunity for operators to work with all the team members and also have some social interaction at the campfire overnight.
One of the exercises we trialled on the weekend was to use a drone to simulate a waterbombing helicopter.
The exercise participants had to talk the drone onto targets while the operator flew areas with only the camera view as reference. All agreed this was a very beneficial and realistic exercise.
Thanks to Daniel Stewart from Dave Stewart Laser Levelling for bringing his drone and skills to assist us.
