Deep Creek Fire
Published Date: 15 Jan 2018
Summary
This fire is in the Hervey Ranges - Goobang National Park area.
The fire was started by lightning last week as storms went through and was only visible from yesterday.
The fire is within the Mid Lachlan Valley Team area, but due to the location and the close proximity of the Canobolas Boundary (2klm's), Canobolas Zone FCC has taken control of the fire.
The Orange Airport had a visit from Air Affairs Australia's Learjet 35, VH-LRX, operating as "Firescan 121". LRX departed Nowra & conducted some linescanning over the Masonite Road fire in Newcastle. It then proceeded down to the Deep Creek fire east of Parkes to conduct a linescan of the fire on behalf of the NSW Rural Fire Service and Canobolas Zone NSW RFS before heading to Orange Airport. "Firescan 121" later departed Orange tracking back to the Masonite Road fire.
The fire was in difficult terrain making access by fire tankers impossible. Fire fighters have had to walk into the fire ground and use hand tools to manage the fire. The dozer is placing containment lines with the Helicopters supporting ground fire fighters.
Relief fire fighting crews will be deployed to site early afternoon. No property is in danger at this time.
