Bushfire danger starts today

The bushfire danger period for the Mid Lachlan Valley starts today.

That means you require a permit to start any fire.

Mid Lachlan Valley Superintendent Ken Neville said it was also a time for property owners to ensure they had fire breaks around stock, infrastructure and haysheds.

“The potential is definitely there for a big fire season, depending on the weather - whether we get the forecast El Nino ,” he said.

“There is a lot of fuel out there.”

He said property owners should undertake hazard reduction such as slashing or ploughing firebreaks.
