RFS control fire at Warrul Road

Summary

Yesterday's gusty conditions did not aid the work of NSW RFS Mid Lachlan Valley Team firefighters who responded to a grass fire on Warrul Road.

The MLVT were alerted to the fire at 1.35pm after a passer by who witnessed the flames called triple zero.

Five appliances from four brigades attended the scene and despite the wild weather, they were able to contain the blaze by 3pm.

The fire burnt through five hectares before being extinguished and its cause is not yet known.

Most of the damage occurred on Marie Reid's property but it is believed the fire first started on a neighbouring farm.

"I didn't know there was a fire, [I found out after] a lady going over the bridge saw the flames and reported it," she said.

Mrs Reid wished to know who the woman was who reported the incident to thank her.

Yesterday's low humidity and windy weather prompted the declaration of a very high fire danger period in this region.
