Parkes Fire & Rescue NSW (FRNSW) members have undergone breathing apparatus and Search and Rescue training at the NSW RFS Parkes HQ Brigade in Mathews Street Parkes.
Some 16 RFS and five FRNSW personnel were on scene.
Acting Senior Instructor Country Region West 1, Senior Firefighter Scott Habgood of FRNSW conducted the training with the Parkes Fire Brigade personnel in breathing apparatus and Search and Rescue.
The training involved the Parkes FRNSW crew revising theory methods on searching smoke filled buildings in order to rescue people, donning their equipment and then conducting a practical search of the RFS Fire Station, all within a simulated smoke logged building.
Two mannequins were placed within the building to test rescue techniques of the FRNSW fire crews.
A computer simulated fire was also placed within the building in order for the fire crews to find, conduct simulated firefighting and using radios to inform the Officer In Charge on the conditions of the fire.
At the conclusion of the training exercise, FRNSW crews gave the RFS Parkes HQ Brigade an introduction to search and rescue methods and of the breathing apparatus used.
Thanks have been expressed to Group Leader Scott Baker of Parkes Rural Fire Service for their generosity and assistance.
