About our district
Cudgegong District is located within the Mid-Western Regional Council local government area. Cudgegong District is located approximately 120km north-west of Lithgow and is the primary combat agency for bush and grass fire incidents for this region. In addition to bush and grass fires, volunteer firefighters respond to more than 430 emergency incidents annually ranging from motor vehicle accidents and structure fires, to storm and flood damage (in support of NSW State Emergency Service) and search and rescue (in support of NSW Police).
Cudgegong District is made up of 1,450 volunteers, across 27 Rural Fire Brigades and 3 specialist units (aviation, remote area firefighting, communications).
Cudgegong District covers an area of approximately 8,700sq kms with a population of 24,200 residents. Cudgegong District is made up of four main townships (Mudgee – Gulgong – Kandos – Rylstone) as well as numerous villages and rural localities.
Cudgegong District forms part of the Central Tablelands weather forecast district and falls within the Central Ranges fire weather district.
