Summary
Springside Rural Fire Brigade enjoyed the time with Nature Kids on Mount Canobolas.
The following story and photos have been provided by Natures Kids.
Thank you SO much to the Brigade from Springside Rural Fire Service of Canobolas Zone NSW RFS for volunteering your afternoon to spend with our Nature Kids at Federal Falls campground!
The kids were so surprised after their hike that FIRE TRUCKS and real Fire Fighting Hero’s,(these guys were part of the huge effort to fight the fire on Mt Canobolas in 2018), had appeared, that they bolted down the campgrounds to meet them!
These amazing people from the biggest volunteer network in the world, let the kids climb all over the two fire engines and press the buttons, run the lights and sirens and the horn! One cheeky Nature Kid even worked out how to use the CB radio as a loud speaker!
They let the kids try on their fire jackets and helmets and have a go at using the hoses.
They gave the kids toy firefighter helmets, balloons, stickers and temporary tattoos and gave them a demo of how their engine protects itself in the middle of a fire with special window blinds and a sprinkler system that sprays the sides of the truck!
They gave the kids a talk about their PPE outfits, campfire and bushfire safety and then the kids got to ask them heaps of questions about their work.
They then showed the kids how to light the campfire and stayed with us all afternoon to cook damper and eat sausage sangas with the kids!
During free time many of the kids formed groups and role play adventure games with the fire trucks central to their story’s.
The Nature Kids and our volunteers felt extremely special to have these guys with us and we look forward to the next time!!!
