Lower Lewis Ponds Hazard Reduction
Published Date: 17 May 2017
Summary
NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) volunteers from Canobolas Zone have started hazard reduction work around Clifton Grove.
Firefighters have created an edge around approximately 300 hectares for further hazard reduction work aimed at reducing bushfire fuel loads ahead of predicted weather change on the weekend.
A helicopter will be used to assist volunteers on Thursday.
Fire mitigation officer Geoff Selwood said conditions were ideal for hazard reduction work, “it’s cooler, we’ve had rains and the ground isn’t as dry”.
The RFS has warned drivers and residents to be aware of the smoky conditions during the hazard reduction work.
