Fire & Rescue NSW received a call from a member of the public at 12.54am and battled the blaze – with the help of the Rural Fire Service crews – until 4.58am.
Fire & Rescue NSW’s Orange station officer Dane Philippe said while no nearby houses or businesses were threatened, a small grass fire had to be extinguished.
Station officer Philippe said accessing the site proved difficult.
“The carriage was not all that large but the fire was ferocious and if it had spread the damage could have been a lot worse,” he said.
“At this stage we’re not sure what started the fire and an investigation is under way.”
Rail Corporation NSW and police attended the scene.
Station officer Philippe said the trail line was closed until the fire was brought under control.
