CAMPERS in the Icely Road area are being blamed for starting a fire that took Canobolas Rural Fire Service (RFS) crews several hours to extinguish on Wednesday morning.
The fire is believed to have started at around 1.20am in an area between Icley Road and Suma Park Dam.
The membership services coordinator for the Canobolas RFS Nils Waite said firefighters were able to contain the fire within two hours thanks to mild conditions.
However heavy winds a few hours later caused the fire to flare up again, forcing crews to revisit the site at around 9am when they spent another 90 minutes extinguishing it.
"It's typical of our volunteers, they get in and get the job done as quickly as possible," Mr Waite said.
Volunteers were also sent to help contain a fire burning east of Blayney in a private pine plantation.
