Burning issues resolved Rural Fire Service passes cause of fires on to police

THE Rural Fire Service (RFS) has determined the cause and the origin of two small fires that started on Monday on the outskirts of Orange, and have handed their findings to police.
RFS asset and infrastructure officer Steve Smith said the findings would not be made public until police had completed their investigations.

While a small fire on Ophir Road was extinguished on Monday afternoon a short time after it started, a brush fire on Lower Lewis Ponds Road continues to burn eight kilometres north-east of Clifton Grove.
Mr Smith said the Lower Lewis Ponds Road fire had burnt out five hectares of land by 9am yesterday but was now under control.
He said the fire hadn't jumped to the other side of the road and had been contained to one area.
"There's still a fair bit of timber burning and some beehives have been lost," he said.
Mr Smith said any rain, which is predicted for today and tomorrow, should extinguish any remaining embers.
Mr Smith said investigations into the cause of the fire had been "definitive and will be handled accordingly".
