Eugowra fire escapes into backyard

Firefighters scrambled yesterday to contain a fire that jumped containment lines at Nangar Road near Eugowra.
A NSW Rural Fire Service Canobolas Zone spokesperson said the fire burnt into the backyard of one nearby home and close to another eight properties.The 228-hectare fire escaped containment lines and started burning towards the Nangar National Park.
"The fire broke containment lines and ground crews and aircraft worked quick to contain the fire," the spokesperson said.
Volunteer firefighters patrolled the burnt area overnight in an effort to keep the fire within containment lines.
With hot weather set to return tomorrow and Thursday, the spokesperson said crews had a lot of work ahead of them.
"[Firefighters will] continue to strengthen containment lines in coming days to make sure the fire doesn't escape before the hot weather and deteriorating conditions on Thursday," the spokesperson said.
Crews have been on scene at the fire located 65 kilometres south-west of Orange since it began on Sunday afternoon.
