Diamond anniversary celebrations for Woolgoolga Rural Fire Brigade

Summary

Members of the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) will gather this afternoon to celebrate one of the region’s oldest brigades, Woolgoolga Bush Fire Brigade, and to honour the exceptional service of its dedicated volunteers.

Superintendent Brian Graham AFSM will be joined by special guests to commemorate the brigade’s 75-year history.

“This event is an opportunity to celebrate the brigade’s rich history and acknowledge the remarkable contributions of members both past and present,” Superintendent Graham said.

“Established in 1949, the Woolgoolga Brigade has come from humble beginnings to now having a two-bay station with firefighting tankers.

“The Woolgoolga Rural Fire Brigade, led by Captain Scott Hodgkinson, continues to play a vital role in safeguarding the community and responding to emergencies across the region.

“With a strong history and a well-equipped station, the brigade is a cornerstone of local fire safety efforts.”

The Brigade currently boasts 34 members, many of whom are long-standing contributors to the team due to the Brigade’s deep roots and respected standing within the Woolgoolga community.

“A special mention goes to founding member Noel Bultitude OAM for his unwavering dedication to the RFS and his local community for over 75 years. In recognition of his commitment, the brigade is honouring Noel by dedicating their medium tanker to him, with his name now proudly marked on the front of the truck.

“This strong membership is a testament to the enduring bond between the brigade and its local residents.

“The brigade remains deeply committed to ensuring that residents and visitors are well-informed and prepared for bush fire threats, actively engaging at local events, keeping their community educated and connected.”

Superintendent Graham said this celebration is an opportunity to recognise the hard work and incredible contribution of all RFS volunteers, particularly those who have dedicated decades of service.

“With its proud history and unwavering dedication to protecting the local area, the Woolgoolga Fire Brigade remains a vital part of the Coffs Coast emergency response network, continuing to evolve while staying true to its roots,” he said.

“We also extend our heartfelt thanks to the families, friends, and employers who support these volunteers. Their encouragement and understanding play a critical role in enabling the brigade to continue their vital work.”
