NRMA grants to help community groups

The grant aims to look for local initiatives which contribute to make Dubbo safer, stronger and more confident.

The program provides funding of up to $5000 for projects that fall in the areas of crime prevention, road safety, environment and emergency readiness and response.
The Orana Rural Fire Service (RFS) was lucky enough to receive an NRMA Insurance Community Grant in October 2014.
With the funding the team purchased The Blazetamer 380 fast fill gel pump system, designed especially for use in aerial fighting of bushfires.
Orana Rural Fire Service manager, Superintendent Lyndon Weiland, said the machine was on standby for all air operations.
Valued at about $3800, Superintendent Weiland said the Blazetamer 380 would speed up aircraft turnaround times and have the capabilities to fill multiple aircraft at a time.
"With this handy, we can now spend a maximum of three minutes in turnaround time," he said.
Superintendent Weiland said the machine also saved volunteers handling the gel manually along with any potential occupational health and safety hazards.

Community groups will also be able to find tips for applying for a grant as well as videos of previous grant recipients.
