TAKING the next step in her showgirl journey is a young woman who has played her part in defending Dubbo and district from fire this summer.
Kennedy Tourle's commitment to her community and the Orana team of the NSW Rural Fire Service during a hectic January has eaten into her preparation time for the zone six final of The Land Sydney Royal Showgirl Competition at Eugowra tomorrow.
But the 2012 ZooFM Dubbo Showgirl isn't shaking in her black work boots at the prospect of being quizzed by a panel of three on local, regional, national and international issues.
In between shifts at the Orana Fire Control Centre she's been "following the news and keeping track of what's happening".
The Orana team's community safety officer hopes her interests and background in agriculturewill be to her advantage. They will make their way to the Sydney Royal Easter Show late next month for the final round of judging and prestigious presentation.
This weekend about 21 young ambassadors of style and substance will turn out to Eugowra, where they will have lunch under the watchful eye of judges before being interviewed individually.
Tomorrow night the country showgirls will be called on to the stage at a formal dinner to tell of their lives and ambitions.
Ms Tourle, who confesses to not being a "girly-girl", is ready for the spotlight in every way, including wardrobe.
"I've found the dress for the function and the outfit for the interview," she said.
"I've bought the new shoes and worn them in."
Now, that's being prepared.
