EOI - Remote Area Operators to participate in Remote Area Trail

Summary
The NSW RFS is expanding its Remote Area Program with a trial of Trail Bikes in the 2015/16 Fire Season.
The trial is aimed at determining the suitability of trail bikes in the following operations:
› Initial attack on small fires located in remote areas using various methods of fire fighting through pre-positioning and rapid deployment (similar to RART Program) operating in teams of two fire fighters.
› Patrol of known new ignition locations on relevant fire danger days
› Patrol of remote area fires
› Reconnaissance of remote fires
It is anticipated that Trail Bike Operators will be utilised on a stand-by arrangement similar to RART and other operations or situations identified that require this level of capability. Specific training will be given to those successful in regards to use of the selected trail bike and relevant equipment.
Application and Pre-Requisites
RAFT volunteers wishing to apply to be part of the trial are required to complete the attached Application Form and will require:
› Current ORE or RAF qualification
› Current First Aid Application
› RMS Class C Drivers licence and Riders licence
› Demonstrated ability to ride a trail bike in an off-road and/or touring environment
› Ability to tow a trailer
› Willingness to travel at short notice
› Willingness to be on stand-by on nominated days
› Willingness to be involved in meetings and training events to further develop the operational capability
› Willingness to test various items of PPE/C and equipment to assist in the operational capability
› District Manager Endorsement
Other selection criteria that will be considered include:
› Previous commitments to RAFT and RART operations
› Previous experience in riding off road motor cycles with rear and side panniers for extended durations
› Professional Attitude
› District location
Submission of Applications Applications should be submitted using the attached form. Applications will need to be supported by the District Manager. Applications must be submitted to raft@rfs.nsw.gov.au by 1700hrs on 14 August 2015. A submitted application does not automatically grant entry into the trial.
