Big dollars invested in Orana RFS capabilities

ORANA Rural Fire Service (RFS) operations will be strengthened with a portion of a $30 million state government grant.
Six brigades will benefit from new fire trucks and five fire stations will also to be built across the Dubbo electorate.
Orana RFS team manager Superintendent Lyndon Weiland said the grant would double what could normally be achieved in a year.
"Normally I would work to construct three sheds within the financial year and the grant has enabled us to construct six," he said.
Wellington and Narromine will each receive two new sheds with another to be constructed for Dubbo's Cumboogle Brigade.
Superintendent Weiland said the sheds would not only house equipment, but would take the burden off housing the trucks in private farming sheds.
The sheds will also provide the area with more community building for locals to use.
The new trucks will add to the state-of-the-art equipment possessed by the Orana RFS and ensure the community receives the best response in an emergency Superintendent Weiland said.
"We're very happy to receive the funds to help run the Orana fire district," he said.
The return of warm weather means fire season is under way and Superintendent Weiland is reminding members of the community to be vigilant.
"People need to be careful in their activities," he said.
"Activities like mowing and angle grinding can have devastating results on a hot day.
Permits are required for anyone wanting to light fires at this time of year.
