Fire crews put into action for hazard reduction burn at Dubbo
Published Date: 17 Apr 2016
Summary
The NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) has carried out a fairly extensive hazard reduction burn on Dubbo’s western outskirts at the weekend.
RFS Orana team manager Lyndon Wieland said the operation was taking place behind the Whylandra Waste and Recycling Centre.
A total of 17 tankers and a helicopter were deployed there on Saturday.
Crews were on duty there on Sunday with two tankers patrolling, Superintendent Wieland said.
“If we get a shower of rain this afternoon it will be perfect,” he said.
The area was identified as a strategy burn to protect from fire running from the west into the waste management facility and also the properties in the subdivision east of Gidgee Road, he said.
