Two cars were burned out in the Beni Forest on Saturday night, NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) Orana team manager Lyndon Wieland said.

The Eulomogo brigade responded, and with the vehicles located well within the forest, it took some time to find the fire, he said.

Also on Saturday night crews from Dubbo headquarters and Fire and Rescue NSW responded to a grass fire on the western side of the Macquarie River on Dubbo's southern outskirts.

Then at Eumungerie north of Dubbo there was an unnotified fire in the backyard of a property and the Eumungerie brigade was called, Superintendent Wieland said.

The statutory Bush Fire Danger Period runs from October 1 to March 31 each year, however it may vary due to local conditions, the NSW RFS website shows.

The website shows that people planning to light a fire in the open during this time in the Orana region need a fire permit.

Substantial fines and prison terms of up to 12 months may apply to persons found to be in breach of the Rural Fires Act 1997 and its Regulations.

Civil law suits can also be bought against persons responsible for fire, by those seeking compensation, for losses sustained.
